Periodically, I would take days off from work just to spend a little father/son with Randy. Once he graduated from high school, he had a lot more availability, so I’d take time off and find things for us to do.
Now, because Randy had this child-like way and look about him, it’s easy to assume that he’d like to do activities that kids much younger than him would also enjoy. And I thought that way too. But at the same time, he was also a young man, not really a child. So, I decided to have an outing with him that not only addressed the child-like side of Randy, but also the young man that his age dictated he should have been (under normal circumstances). How to do this was the question….🤔
My answer was this: spend the morning at Legoland (he loved the LEGO video games), and then take him to the Tilted Kilt for lunch. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Tilted Kilt, it’s definitely more of an adult kind of place where the waitresses wear what many consider to be scantily clad uniforms (see the pics of this post), and I wasn’t sure how he’d like going there or if it would even be a good idea to take him….
We started our day with Legoland. Now I had never been there myself, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Mainly, it was like going to a LEGO museum, where we just walked through the building and saw the elaborate things people had built with LEGO blocks.

Don’t get me wrong, it was pretty cool seeing all the things capable of being built with just these little LEGO blocks. But there were a lot of VERY young kids there (like 1st and 2nd graders), so Randy wasn’t a big fan of that. Plus, he liked to be play with stuff and be “hands on”, which is hard to do when there are a ton of kids everywhere and the rest of the place was more like a bunch of exhibits. I got the sense that he wasn’t particularly enjoying himself there.

So, I decided it was time to go to the next phase of the day: lunch. And one thing I knew Randy liked to do was eat, so I was a bit more optimistic about going there. Cautiously optimistic, but still optimistic lol.
Any concerns I had were quickly put to rest. When Randy saw those girls, he lit up and became the biggest flirt you’d ever seen lol. And they loved him. They weren’t really busy at that time of day, so they all came out and talked to him and laughed at his jokes. Randy was in full flirt mode! Lol He really did love every minute of it. And they thought he was adorable. They asked if he wanted his picture taken with all of them and of course he said yes. Our server also took a pic with him (see below). In those pics, he had the biggest, most genuine smile he had had all day. Randy may have looked like a child, but that day, he reminded me that he was still a man….
