Randy’s personality (part 1)

How do you describe someone who was so complex, and yet so simple?

What description could I give that would do him the most justice?

It’s extremely difficult to try and describe someone so unique to people who never met Randy. And to be honest, I’m not sure one post (or even 50 posts) would adequately cover the topic. But, with that being said, that is whole purpose this blog exists – so the world might get to know more about an extraordinary human being. So, I’ll try my best here…

Randy was short and wide. He actually kinda had a bit of a barrel shape to him as he got older. In a way, it was like he was frozen in time. The cancer treatments he received early in life stunted his growth, so he stayed short. Randy also wasn’t a fan of a lot of physical activity, but he was a BIG fan of eating lol. As a result, he got pretty chunky.

Randy was funny – in a Randy-sort of way lol. What I mean by that is that he could be absolutely hilarious in one sense (no one ever made me laugh harder than him), but he could also wear you out with some very corny jokes. One after another, after another….his joke knowledge seemed endless lol. He also said things that he didn’t mean to be funny, but they just were because they didn’t make a whole lot of sense to anyone other than him lol. He was the king of cheesy kid-friendly jokes, and he had some great one liners here and there. My dad got him into comedians like Rodney Dangerfield, which he liked to watch on YouTube.

Randy loved music and had very eclectic tastes. He liked Disney songs from movies like Aladdin and Toy Story. Randy was a big fan of boy bands (for some unknown reason lol) and would often sing “Bye bye bye” or some other Backstreet Boys song that he would get stuck in my head lol. On the flip side, he could just as easily listen to “Shot in the Dark” by Ozzy and System of a Down. Sometimes when Randy and I would be in the car, we’d turn “The Final Countdown” up and both of us would just sing it as horribly and loud as we could lol. He wasn’t much of a singer, but he loved karaoke and had no problem getting up in front of large groups to do it.

The king of karaoke ❤️

Randy was not big into sports, but he did Special Olympics bowling and special needs baseball. He liked to get a hit in baseball, but he wasn’t really there for that. Randy was there for one reason: to talk to his friend Alyssa. In fact, that was probably his main reason for bowling too lol. Wherever he was and no matter what he was doing, Randy always tried to stay as close to Alyssa as he could. Sports were always secondary to him when she was around.

His favorite teammate

Randy and I used to wrestle and torture each other a lot. His headlocks were like getting your head caught in a vise! Lol he was surprisingly strong and once he grabbed a hold of my head, I knew I’d have a hard time getting away from his grip. In fact, Randy enjoyed torturing James quite a bit too. We usually had a lot of fun when we were around each other because it was almost always a war lol.

“You’re gonna pay!” 😂

I’ll stop for now, but I’ll definitely go further in depth on this topic in upcoming posts. 😊
